The fault being the inability to use the full expansion capabilities of the server due to a BIOS fault. May 17, Posts: I agree, we need a BIOS update. My advice to HP is please put a decent card in the first place even if this is a server fingers cross someone will solve this issue. Jun 30, at Jun 30, at 8: Added 8GB of ram, and bought a GB hd to swap into my Mac Pro, will then chuck my 2 GB drives in a set up an array, probabaly just raid 0 as not bothered if it dies Also these boxes seemed to have had a firmware update which makes them Opteron Gen vidwo compatible, so I might chuck a Phenom in just to see what that does.
I am able to access up to videl. Mick, exactly which OS are you running? Might I suggest that anyone having the same problem with this server contact HP at the above number to log a complaint. It may be worth you doing the same. I’ve just got off the phone to HP support in the UK, bad news. I also noticed that, after unplugging the power to the card to disable itI have to boot it to safe mode first before I can get Windows back up again.
Mp115 ordered one of these this morning, with the intention of playing with Xenserver, XenDesktop, Hyper-V and anything else I can be bothered to chuck on it. I had a look at the documentation and it also comes with PCI Express X16 slot too which could come in handy. The 2nd line support engineers have carried out some tests and confirm that the server does not support any graphics card other vldeo the onboard Matrox controller for more that 2.
Hmmm fair point though I wasn’t expecting anything fancy at this price point. I have 4 of these machines, 2 x G5 2 x G1, both types have have this problem.
How do we get HP to look into this? On closer inspection of your spec, it seems slightly different to the ones we had – yours has PCI-X and whatnot, ours didn’t have that much expansion – you’ve certainly got a better deal vldeo the looks of things.
May 17, Posts: Putting the RAM back in does not work.
I thought these were HPC boxes, rather then servers as such. Your Username or Email Address: Oct 20, Posts: No issues on 32 bit or 64bit 8gb of ram fitted. I’m afraid i don’t have any pics, we’ve since shipped them to clients and i’m not sure if we’ll be getting them again we just buy whatever is appropriate rather than loads of the same one We have a high performance graphics requirement so we viceo to fit a new viveo card – which also required a new power supply – that’s somthing which annoyed me – somthing sold as a server requires a new power supply for a simple upgrade.
Space, the final frontier. Thanks Guys for posting back about this.
To me the only ‘server’ component in it is the Opteron CPU, though if it takes ECC ram then the board has gone up slightly in my opinion. I have the same problem and will give them a call. I and 20 of my friends also have the extact same problem, let me when you fix it as it is very annoying, espically as i have 8GB of HP RAM really wish i did not buy this server Why can not HP fix this problem I have found also that setting the memory below 2GB solves the problem.
Workaround found for this Was about to return the card today when I remembered I’ve updated to the most recent bios A side note, the hard drive fitted as standard is really slow, worth fitting a new master drive at least. I agree, we need a BIOS update. I’m only running it with 2. I’d be surprised, and i always have the option of dumping a Quad Core in later.
